Selection Criteria

  1. Veteran/Auxiliary includes support member or staff (Must be a resident of Sarasota County and/or work full time in Sarasota County and is not presently an elected officer of the Sarasota County Veterans Commission or a previous Veteran of the Year award recipient).
  2. Nominations should describe his or her service to the nominating organization if applicable, the veteran and military population at large and community service.
  3. Nominations should include information regarding the nominee’s military service if a veteran or auxiliary/support service to include dates of service, awards and decorations.
  4. Nominations should be in a narrative form.
  5. Nominees will also be judged on their contributions to patriotic endeavors, educating the community on the historic contributions of veterans, service to veterans and their families and other community service.
  6. The selected honoree (one male veteran; one female veteran; and one Auxiliary includes support member or staff will be recognized with a formal presentation being made at the appropriate Veterans Day ceremonies in either Sarasota, Venice, or North Port, depending upon the place of residence and/or the selected nominating organizations location.
  7. Individuals may submit a nomination for another individual, providing the Veteran of the Year Award selection criteria is
    observed.

All nominations must be submitted to arrive at the address shown below no later than October 31st of the nominating year, unless another date is announced by the SCVC.
